I’ve known Derek for more than 20 years. We grew up playing hockey, skateboarding and drawing together, and over the years I’ve been lucky enough to watch him grow into a talented and original artist. We met up last night at his studio/apartment and had a quick conversation about skateboarding and art.

I’m a huge fan of Point Break. I could watch it over and over again and still be hyped on it. Earlier this year I was on a flight back to California from Massachusetts and my flight was delayed. They told me that my connecting flight was going to wait but when I got to Phoenix, it had left. They had no other flights going out so they put me up in a hotel. I really wanted to go home but what can you do. I decided to flick on the TV and click around. Point Break was on. I was instantly in a better mood. That’s how much I like Point Break. If you’re feeling bored this weekend head down to Blockbuster or the Library and pick it up. Or you could just buy it for your collection. Check out the trailer and a the beach fight scene below.

In a lot of ways I’m glad that blogging or whatever you wanna call it, is so popular. It really weeds out the boring material that would have been a zine 10 years ago. Adam Roye knows this. The material in his debut issue, Cult, belongs in a tangible format not on a Blogspot page. With content ranging from scanned pages from BMX magazines of all his Pro BMX friends to crude drug references and “edgy” nude photos, it is for sure a must read. It’s gonna be on every blog but I don’t care, It deserves to be. So psyched.

This feature on the Patagonia site is pretty rad. Lots of videos to check out. I was into this one called Substituted By Blue, which follows surfers Belinda Peterson-Baggs, Dane Peterson, Adam Kobayashi, Harrison Roach, and Mick Hughes to Sri Lanka and West Sumatra. Mellow longboarding styles. Go in and click around, it’s pretty cool.

Their clothes are nice too. Perfect for driving around campus in your diamond encrusted Land Rover saving the world.
