This sounds awesome. If you’re going to be in Washington D.C. between June 12th or September 13th 2009, I would highly suggest going to see this exhibition Ramp It Up: Skateboard Culture in Native America. I went to the Grand Canyon like 2 years ago and when we were driving in there was an amazing set of trails on the side of the road. I think a trip might be in order to do an article on it.

More skating at the Smithsonian! July 3,4,and 5 NMAI will build a 1/2 pipe INSIDE the museum and host a Native skate demo. definitely the first (and probably the last) time you’ll ever see skating in a Smithsonian museum.
