Hating on William Spencer. It’s hard to believe that an activity that is all about “expression” and “creativity” and “fun” could hate on something like this part from the “In Color” DVD. I know this was on skatedaily yesterday, but I had to figure out a way to post it, it’s too good and unfortunately true that so many people hate on stuff like this in the skateboarding world.
To this day, curved wallrides pretty much blow my mind. I guess if you do the math they make some sort of sense, but when you think of things to do on a bike, riding on a vertical wall isn’t one of the first things that comes to mind. In fact, it’s probably the last after things that comes to mind, especially to people who have never seen a BMX trick before. With that in mind, I think it’s safe to say the footage at roughly :50 seconds in the video below is one of those rare moments on a bike or a skateboard most everyone can appreciate.
This is severely old news but I just came across this recently thanks to a link from my girlfriend. Fiona Banner has made numerous “film stills”, which, according to MoMA, “explore how stories are perceived and reimagined, particularly in pornography, action films, epic films, and films about war.”. Fair enough. Anything involving Point Break is pretty awesome to me and this is no different.

Friends of ITG, Jad Angell and Dusty Gaidos, recently took a trip out to Wellfleet, Ma. to see Dinosaur Jr. and skate the park out there. Eight hours in the hospital plus J. Mascis and a really fun skatepark equals solid blog situations. Check out Jad’s perspective on Slap and then peep the cross-blogging on Dusty’s site.
You gotta get sick.
Awhile back, Dig ran an article on a Canadian road trip with the Animal team. It was full of weird spots that were basically untouched photo and video wise and even inspired me to head up to Montreal to taste some of the Canadian offerings for myself. One of the spots that was spoken of highly was the Halifax, Nova Scotia Skatepark. At the time it was a 70’s snake run style park, actually built by the same people who built Hastings in British Columbia. It seems that recently a new street style course was added on to the old park, only adding to the desire of me wanting to ride the 70’s masterpiece. The photo above was swiped from New England legend, Mike Rotundo’s facebook and the video below is from some contest that went on recently, mostly in the new section of the park. Has anyone ever been? Does it live up to expectations? Feel free to burst my romanticized vision of the skatepark in the comments below.

Call it what you want, the hippy-hop, the Bart Simpson, whatever, jumping off your bike or board and over something is pretty rad and always amazes. While doing a tabletop or a kickflip are undeniably awesome, they may not seem impressive to outsiders. On the other hand, the hippy jump will probably excite everyone from your typical beer swilling jock to your grandmother, and that’s refreshing. Sweet photo swiped from here.
I was lurking youtube for some East Coast Destruction gems and I came across this, which the title, “A-Town Trash trailer 2000somethin’”, does a good job of summing it up. It could have been filmed during any part of the 2000’s and would still be awesome. Scrap shredding at it’s best. It also seems like ECD has somewhat of a new site, guestbook still intact and all! They were right, ECD will never die.
Via Deluxe, I saw that Epicly Trife posted this year old trailer for a film about the legendary Phil Shao. Check it out below. RIP.
