Jim Cielencki Interview!!

jim-cielencki-sunday

Hows production going on the new frames The Forecaster, Wave 3 and the new Funday!?
Really well.  Actually, all the new frames and the new Tall T bars are being sent to shops as we speak.  I’m pretty stoked for this because it’s the start of a new chapter in Sunday’s history.  For the first 4.5 years, we were distributed in the USA by other distributors instead of doing it ourselves.  It was tough because we never spoke to shops, so we never got to explain our side of the story.  At the start of 2010, we started our own distro called Full Factory Distribution, so we get to explain all about Sunday directly to our customers.  It’s not easy starting a distro, but it’s starting to work.
When can we expect these frames to be hitting shops?
The frames are out as of last week!
Over the past five years has Sunday! evolved into everything you have expected?
Oh yeah, for sure and then some.  There’s always things that happen unexpectedly, but it just makes things more interesting.  If you think everything is going to work perfect every time then you are sorely mistaken.  It’s been amazing so far, originally we knew that complete bikes were in the picture, but we wanted to wait until we had some credibility with the name, team and the product.  The 24″ stuff has been an interesting surprise.  Bikes are at an interesting time.  It really seems like the definition of track bikes, MTB and BMX is becoming less clear. You are starting to see MTB and track bikes coming towards BMX with its tricks, style and use of BMX parts.  The 24″ has been great because it allows older and bigger guys to ride BMX without having to think they should be on a MTB.
When can we expect a new full length DVD?
Not sure, we are talking ideas, but right now everything is short video based.  It’s weird because you put out a full length video and people talk about it for a few weeks.  Or you can put out a web based video and people will talk about it for the same amount of time.  It’s a weird time for videos.
I know the swine flu tour was a while back but how did that trip go?

It went well even though Jeff Z, Francis and Jake were sick the whole time.  We got ran out of Salt Lake City due to the weather.  Atleast we got to go to 50/50 and Matt Berringer’s house.  I’ve always wanted to ride that place.  And we got to meet Tate Roskelley.  I’ve always liked his riding. Super creative.
What are your top three goals for 2010?
Win the X-Games….no just kidding.  Just get Full Factory stable and running, get settled in Austin and have fun riding.
Are you going to focus on business or riding more this year?
Most likely the business, I’m getting old and feeling it.  Haha!  My right ankle has been hurt for 2 years and counting.  I found a really good brace for it so I’m able to ride a lot more.  Right now I enjoy doing both sides of it, but if I do one without the other then it sort of doesn’t work for me.  Besides the kids these days are crazy and made of rubber.  I don’t get to ride enough to keep up, but I’d rather go in my own direction anyway.
Whats your ride set up right now?
Sunday Third Wave frame, Morning 2.1 forks and Odyssey Gary Young prototype bars.  The rest is Odyssey parts with GSport hubs.  My bike is dialed!   The 24″ is a Wave C prototype with front brakes.  My bike is so good right now.

Over the years where’s been your favorite place to film and just chill?
I’m not that great at just chilling, I always have to be doing something.  Barcelona is always amazing.  I’m still baffled by that city.  Tallinn, Estonia has always been one of my favorite places to visit.  I’d like to see it in the summer time, but I’ll settle for January which is when I usually go.  In February, I went with the Sunday team down to Australia and that place was amazing.  So many skateparks, amazing places to see and it just seemed like another world.  I can’t wait to go back.
Whats a day in your life like?
Work son!  Nothing too epic.  I always wake up at 7am, no alarm clock needed.  It’s weird getting old.  I have to have tea at some point in the morning.  That always starts the day off right.  Work til 6pm and then go ride, watch hockey or do something interesting.  I hate getting in ruts, so I make sure I do something, so it doesn’t seem like the days are flying by.
And finally what can we expect from Sunday! this year?
New frames, more colors, new bikes and as usual expect the unexpected.
And if you kids have never seen Jim C ride here is a little web vid enjoy….

Adam22 Interview on ESPN

Adam Grandmaison, Adam22

Adam Grandmaison, aka Adam22 of The Come Up, has an interview up on ESPN.  This is the first interview in a week long series with brands.  Adam talks about his new parts company OSS.  Their first video will be out this fall and it features parts by Garrett Reeves, Rory Ellis, Jake Seeley, Mike Mastroni, Alex Platt, Craig Passero and Charlie Crumlish and some footy of Chris Zeppieri and Devin Feil.  Check out the full interview here

Is there a conflict of interest between running The Come Up and now owning your own bike company?
I wouldn’t say there is a conflict of interest; just a lot of opportunity for it to become a conflict. All it means for me is working more closely with the brands who advertise on The Come Up so that they understand I’m not trying to use TCU to promote OSS more than I would any other brand. And that way if they think I am doing something inappropriate, they can talk to me and let me know and we can work it out. I’m trying to err on the side of caution by letting the other dudes who update the site author those posts. Most of the companies who advertise have been really outwardly supportive of me. As much as gossip goes on in BMX, much of it aimed at me, a lot of rider owned companies are just happy to see someone like me who really cares about BMX doing well.

It’s A Sunny Night…..

If Your Going To Do It, Do It Big….

I finally got to watch the Birth of Big Air and all I can say is with out Matt Hoffman I do not think our sport would have been existance today, kind of like how aggressive inline went out. In my opinion Matt Hoffman is the Rodney Mullen of Bmx, Matt pushed the limits of what could be done on a 20″ bike. Sure he might have gotten knocked down but he got right back up. If when watching this movie does not inspire you to ride then I don’t know what the heck your doing on a bike. So order it if you have comcast post a comment on what you think of the movie and get out there and ride like you stole it! I’m on my phone so when I get by a computer ill post some news up for you guys and some videos. Ride to live, live to ride…….

They Don’t Call It The Windy City For Nothing……

Hey guys sorry for the lack of updates I haven’t had power for the past few days because of the wind and storms in Chicago. If you guys miss the FBM bottle neck stem and the cross sprocket they are making a return to the FBM product line. The sprocket will be out next week and the stem will be out shortly after, click HERE to check them out. Aaron Ross has a bike check up over at FAT BMX, it looks amazing he comes up with the most ridiculous/amazing color ways. Speaking of bike checks Dakota Roche has one up over at Odyssey, the Bad Boy frame looks sick in matte black. Honestly what is going on with Metal Bikes first Sean Burns now Alex Liiv. Alex said that there wasn’t any problems or anything just wanted to start new projects. Hmmm new projects could Alex and Sean be starting a bike company? We will just have to wait to see. Tonight I’m going to watch the Birth of Big Air and I will have a review up of it tomorrow. I only have two videos for you guys today one of Chris Doyle and the other is of Jourdan Barba enjoy……
